Thanksgiving Tablescape

Can you believe how fast November is whizzing by? Thanksgiving is a week away and then Christmas is not far behind. Yowza!!! Not much time.

I always feel like I'm a day late and a dollar short. Well this year, I am more than a dollar short, but at least I am not a day late when it comes to setting my table for Thanksgiving. Well, at least one of my tables.

And when you see my table you will say, "Kim, where are your turkey plates?" Don't worry, they will make an appearance on my other table. I just didn't have my act well enough together to get that table set. You will just have to wait until next week.

So this week, you get table number one. This is my "Count your blessings" tablescape.

I started with a burgundy tablecloth I've had for years. Then I added a fall colored table runner with leaves that I purchased from ABC Distributing online a couple of years ago.
I got these faux wood chargers at Walmart back in September. They were $2.99 each. I loved the raised leaves on them.

Then I added my white Federalist Ironstone dinner plates. I picked up 4 of these at a thrift store about 10 years ago. They had some chips, and some crazing, but I don't care, I still love them. I have 4 different patterned white dinner plates that I use every day. I wish I could find more of these plates.
I used 2 different colored leaf plates that came from Walmart years ago. I use them as salad plates for Thanksgiving.
I love this color the best.
My silverware came from Target on clearance during the summer. I have seen so many of you with the same silverware. I paid less than a dollar a piece. I only got service for four as that is all they had left. I wish I could have found more.
My napkins and napkin rings came from Walmart this year. The napkin rings match the chargers. I think they were $2.00 for four. The napkins were $2.00 for four as well. I did pick up a matching tablecloth to the napkins today at Walmart for $5.00 on clearance. I will probably use it on my other table. But I'm not sure. But for $5.00, how could I pass up a tablecloth?
My Libbey water goblets are used again. I added a little something to the stem for decoration.

It's actually a napkin ring that I made a few years back. I purchased a kit from Oriental Trading Co to make them. Well actually my niece put them together for me as I procrastinated doing so until Thanksgiving Day. They were cheap & turned out cute. They are on stretchy cord so they were easy to stretch over the bottom of the glass. I like how they dress up the glass.

I placed faux mercury glass votive holders at each place setting for a little sparkle & light.
I just got these votive holders from Target online. They came in a set of 12 for $9.99. But I did see that you can buy them individually at Target for a dollar each. And they come in other colors too. But I love the silver. Here is my place setting with the tan plates.

And the burgundy place setting.

The funnest part and hardest part of a tablescape for me is the centerpiece. I played around with about 10 different ones. This is the one I was happiest with.

I started with my iron candelabra. I got this dirt cheap at a trade show.
I added some of the beaded napkin rings for a little razzle dazzle.

Added my "Count your Blessings" sign from Deseret Book (on clearance).

And you can't have Thanksgiving without some Indian corn. I think I've had these 3 ears of corn for about 20 years. I can't believe that the bugs haven't eaten it by now. I added new ribbon from Dollar Tree to it last year.

The twig pumpkin came from Target Dollar Spot ($2.50 part) a few months back.

The back side of my centerpiece looks almost as good as the front. But not quite.

I added a couple of Salt and Pepper sets. This set I've had for 20 years.

These are my new salt & pepper shakers from Walmart this year.

A few final shots of my centerpiece.

And a few final shots of my Thanksgiving tablescape.

What are you plans for Thanksgiving? We are having about 14 people for Thanksgiving. That is about 1/2 of my family. We always have turkey and usually we also have ham (depending on how many people are coming), stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, corn, yams, tossed green salad, my Thanksgiving jello salad, rolls and pumpkin pie for dessert. Yum, yum!!! I can hardly wait.

Luckily I don't have to cook it all. Hubby cooks the turkey, ham, stuffing & gravy. And my sister in law makes the tastiest tossed green salad. Sam's Club or Costco makes the pumpkin pie and rolls and I do everything else. So it's a group effort.

I love getting together with my family. We always have a good time. Usually not much drama. The only time we get drama is if the entire family gets together. But we've only had drama once in the 5 years we've lived in our house. So I count myself lucky.

I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and get to eat lots of yummy food.

Kim

I too am amazed at how fast this year has flown by. At work today I was kind of taken aback when I changed the date on my stamper to Nov 20. Where did the time go? 14. I think we had those white dishes when I was a kid. It seems like my mom got them at Safeway. Might not be the same, but they sure are similar. Wish I knew where they were now - maybe at your house!

Your table looks just lovely. I love when nice thrifty finds at Walmart or Dollar Tree look so well when you combine them with vintage treasures.

  22. Kim, your Thanksgiving table is so pretty. That is so clever to use those napkin rings around the glassware stems and on the candellabra. I'm going to have to remember that idea. Love those chargers and napkin rings! I didn't see those at our Wal Mart, and your leaf plates are so pretty too. laurie

  23. Dear Kim,

Wowsers! Your Thanksgiving table looks spectacular! Everything, just EVERYTHING looks so gorgeous, and that you were able to get so much of it for such a good price makes it even more amazing, because it looks like a very "high end" affair. Good for you!

Thank you for visiting my blog at www.theteatrolley.blogspot.com I aggree that the most important thing about keeping a well-ordered house, is to have a place for everything and everything in its place. That, dear new friend, is my problem in a nutshell. Seven or eight years ago when we moved inot our current house, I didn't find the room to unpack many of my lovliest things. They remained in boxes, and are still stored in the garage. My fondest wish was to have sheliving put up in the garage, where things could be stored, but displayed in plain view so that when I needed them, or wanted to change up my decor, I didn't have to go rooting through boxes. That has not yet happened. It is something to aspire to, but it is, as yet, just a dream! I have visons of shelves lined with large plastic bins, meticulously labelled, and other shelves where serving pieces can be both stored, and displayed so that they are easy to reach and easy to put back once they were not longer needed. Again, a dream, and something to set as a goal in the new year. As for the dreaded dusting and vacuuming; those are things that can be put off indefinitely, as long as everything else is in order. You are NOT lazy! You just have better things to do with your time. BEsides, no one was ever nibbled by a dust bunny, after all, so they are harmless! So thank you again, and point taken! My New Years resolution will be Everything in its place and a place for everything. Thanks for your imput!
