Be Mine Cutie Pie

This year for Valentine's Day, I found so many cute free printables from various blogs. My favorites are the subway art ones. I used one in my mantel display. And another one for the vignette on top of my TV armoire.

But I had a third one that I wanted to use as well. This one I decided would work perfect on my family room shelf. I found this one on Tip Junkie blog.

I just love easy art. Print it out, cut it & slap it in a frame. Easy peasy! Plus it was FREE!!!!!

Here it is on my shelf. Isn't it cute? I just love it.

My other new love is making lollies or medallions or whatever you want to call them.

I added them to the bottles.

I used stuff I already had on hand.

I started off adding a little glitter to give it some bling.

Then I added even more. I did finally stop as I got glitter in my eyes. Not great when you wear hard contacts. Not great even if you wear soft contacts or even if you don't wear any contacts.

I hot glued some twine on the back so I could tie them onto the bottles.

I made a big one to hang on the mirror. This one I made out of a Dollar Tree dictionary and some music I printed off the computer.

I've found a couple of different tutorials on the web for making these. The larger outer one I made following this video.

But most of mine I do it a different way. I couldn't find the link where I learned to make them, but I found a video that is closest to what I do. You can find it here. Except that I use hot glue for putting them together. I just use what I have.

I think of love birds at Valentine's Day. So I added this pair of birdies to be my "Love Birds". I got them last year at Christmas time from Target.

Last year I found a cherub punch at Dollar Tree. I punched out a bunch from my Dollar Tree Thesaurus and used them as scatters.

I cut out a bunch of hearts from my Dollar Store dictionary and some music I printed out on paper. If you don't have vintage sheet music, you can find some you can print out from The Graphics Fairy. I happen to find a book of organ music at the thrift store. I just copy a page whenever I need to use some for a project.

I hung the paper hearts from my willow branches using left over ornament hooks from Christmas.

I added an "X" and an "O" that I got from TJ Maxx last year. And I called the shelf done.

Love Birds and Cherubs

My love affair with cherubs continues. This is the table that sits behind the couch in my family room.

I covered the table with burlap at Christmas. I liked it, so I left it. Did you notice the frame hanging above the table? I put new vintage Paris prints in it. I love it!!! It had angels at Christmas.

Now back to my table.....

I put my cherubs under glass again. This one is praying that I let him out.

The glittered "Love" word came from Michael's last year or the year before from their dollar bin. I tell you this as I personally like when others tell me not only where they got something, but when. Cause sometimes you see something that you just got to have, but you can't have it as it was years ago someone got something. But I like to know that up front, so I don't waste my time dashing to a particular store only to find out it was something they sold years ago. So that is why I tell you. I wouldn't want you to waste your time, not to mention your gas, dashing to a store only to have your hopes smashed into tiny little pieces. I'll smash your hope right from the get go. I'm nice like that.

This cherub is just plain bored. He can hardly wait for his release. I might let him out early for good behavior.

I raised him up on this vintage frog. I remember the first time I heard of flower frogs. I thought, "What the heck are they talking about? It doesn't look anything like a frog!" So I have no idea who thought to call them that. Anyhoo, I use them for raising things up.

Then I added some heart scatters that I've had for a few years. I did make the paper hearts this year. They are so easy to make. I learned how from Stephanie Lynn's blog Under the Table and Dreaming. She has the tutorial over there. I'm too lazy to tell you how to do it. I'll make you click a link to find out how.

I taped some glitter hearts behind the cherub. They came from Walmart last year.

In between the two cloches I placed these four frames that spell out "LOVE". I made them last year. Well you can't really call it "made". I just printed out some vintage letters I had in my computer in sepia tone & placed them in some Dollar Tree frames. Sometimes, Dollar Tree has some fabulous frames. Haven't seen any lately, but last year, they had a lot of frames I loved.

I actually have 5 or 6 of these frames. I also used them last year to spell out "LUCKY" for St Paddy's day.

If I was really on the ball (and at home), I'd give you the images for these letters. But since I am neither at home, nor on the ball, I don't have them to share. I can't even tell you what font they are. They came from a book called Memories of a Lifetime: Weddings. So I'm not sure I could even share with you without getting hauled in by the copyright police.

I then placed 2 birdies in front. I've had these birdies for at least 5 years. Not sure where I got them originally. They usually sit on the shelf over my bathtub. I'm surprised they are in as good of shape as they are. You see one night a few years back, one of the nails holding up my shelf came out of the wall in the middle of the night. The shelf & everything on it crashed into my bathtub. It was quite a rude awakening. Luckily only a couple of things broke, which is actually a miracle since almost everything on the shelf was glass and/or breakable. But the birdy on the right did get a broken tail. The pieces were too smashed to glue back together. So hubby used some of his bondo to fix him right up. He even painted him. Looks good as new.

I thought the birdies needed a little something to spruce them up. So I made them some paper crowns. I spent hours creating these crowns. NOT!!!! About 2 seconds was all I could give. But they do look better. The only problem is (my favorite thing to say), the crowns cover up their eyes, so they can't see. Who am I kidding? These birdies can't see even if their eyes weren't covered up.

So there is today's post. Pretty lame I know. But at least I've posted 3 times already this week. I'm on a roll. And I still have more Valentine decor to share with you. So y'all come back now, you hear?

The Cherubs Are Taking Over-Part 1

I have a thing for Cherubs. I'm in love with them. But they only get to come out to play a couple of times a year. Christmas and Valentine's Day.

This year, they missed Christmas. I think they went to Florida for Christmas. But they made it back in time for Valentine's Day.

My obsession with Cherubs started about 5 years ago when I was getting married. I was buying them from everywhere. Mostly thrift stores, antique stores and eBay.

You will see as I post my Valentine's Day decor, that they really have taken over my family room.

I placed a couple of them under glass to try & keep them under control. I gave them a bed of shredded tissue so that they would have a comfortable place to rest. As you can see, I'm still in a pink mood.

I even dressed up their habitat some with this paper heart garland. I just punched a bunch of hearts out of Valentine paper and hot glued them to some twine. I really wanted to use white string, but do you think I could find mine? Obviously the answer is "NO". So twine was the next best thing. Fast, cheap and easy project. But then, aren't all my projects fast, cheap & easy? Kind of like me. Just kidding.

I placed these "faux" white roses in this cherub planter. The roses originally came wrapped up in red foil. I exchanged the red foil for some pink tissue paper.

I added some vintage reproduction prints from my computer to this thrift store frame. This cherub is actually Cupid as he has arrows and a bow.

My heart still goes pitter patter when ever I see a Cherub.

Stay tuned as more Cherubs are still to come. I just have to get them to pose for photos before making their debut. I may just have to put some more under glass in order to do so.

Call Me Sweetheart

Pink is more my color when it comes to Valentine's Day decorating. It's not that I don't like my red and blue mantel. It's just that I am more fond of pink.

So pink is my color of choice for decorating the top of my TV armoire.

It started with this freebie Valentine subway art that I got from eighteen 25 blog. I loved the colors. And I love that it has the words "Call Me" on it. You see back in 1980 my favorite song was "Call Me" by Blondie. I had more fun lip sinking to that song. Brings back great memories whenever I think about the song, or better yet, hear the song. So those 2 words made me love this subway art even more.

It looks great up here with all my white pitchers.

I added a cherub. I have lots of cherubs. They are left overs from my wedding almost 5 years ago. Five years! Has it really been that long already? Now where were we?

I hung some paper hearts from the willow branches. I just cut out heart shapes from pink card stock and added some Valentine heart stickers I picked up at Dollar Tree. I should have used my new Silhouette machine I got for Christmas, but I'm so lazy that I haven't even gotten it out to find out how to use it. But I will.....someday.

I lived with my decor looking just like this for about a week. Then I decided that it needed something on the right hand side.

So I made some paper flowers for one of the pitchers. Much better now.

I made a couple from a few pages of my dictionary from Dollar Tree. The Valentine paper came from Tar Jay's Dollar Spot. I had a few left over Dollar Tree stickers that I used as well.

The pink glittery hearts are from Dollar Tree. I've had them for a couple of years. But I did see them at Dollar Tree this year too.

You can find instructions on the web or other peoples blogs for making these. I've seem then called lollies, medallions, fans. So I'm not sure what you call them. I just call them purty.

I am really happy with how these flowers turned out. They don't smell good, but at least they make me smile. And they will last a heck of a lot longer than real flowers. But I do love real flowers (hint, hint hunny).

One last shot for your enjoyment.

I do have more Valentine decor to share with you. I'm trying to drag this out as long as possible. Plus some of my photos I took this morning of the other areas, didn't turn out so great. The lighting sucks at my house in the morning. And when I get home from work, there is no light as it is already dark. This is a bad time of year for taking photos.

I also did some window shopping down in Old Town Temecula on Saturday. I'll be sure & post photos of some fabulous stores they have down there. If you are ever in southern California, it is a great place to go.

Until later, see ya!!!

A Valentine Vignette

I just hate thinking up titles for blog posts. And deciding what to write in the post. I could never be a writer. As soon as I start typing, my mind draws a complete blank and I have no idea what to write. I had that trouble too when I sold on eBay when it came to writing the descriptions. Complete, BLANK!

But I do like to talk, and I do love to show pictures. So we will be brave & just wing it.

I did most of my Valentine decorating this past weekend. I've already shown you my mantel, today I'm sharing this little cabinet that sits at the end of my kitchen cabinets. I not literally sharing, as I kind of like this cabinet and would like it to stay at my house. But I'll share photos of it with you.

I'm having a real hard time these past few months feeling very creative. It about kills me trying to think up something new and not do the same thing year after year. And not having any money makes it doubly hard. Luckily paper is so cheap and hip hip hurray for Dollar Tree. And I don't want to forget all you fabulous lovelies out there in blogland who provide us with "free" printables.

My cloches are the hardest thing for me to decorate right now. In this one I placed some Dollar Tree Valentine picks inside a vintage bottle. Not very creative, but it will do.

Then I made some quilled paper hearts as fillers. I learned how over at Under the Table and Dreaming. Stephanie always has fabulous tutorials and makes the best stuff. And since this was cheap, and oh so easy, it was right up my ally. And did I mention they are cute? Yes they are.

My apothecary jar is filled with letter balls. I tried to get the L,O,V,E letters to spell love in the front of the jar. But I couldn't get them to stay up the right direction. How dare they not cooperate. So I took out these letters and will use them elsewhere in my decor. I just have to figure out how to keep them from rolling away.

I did hang this thrift store heart ornament and a key from the lid.

There are so many "free printables" out there in blogland right now. I found this one at Betty Crocker Wannabe. I love it!!!

I wish I knew how to make these kind of things. But why do I need to when there are so many of you out there who will do it for me.

That has always been my mantra, "Why do it myself when I can get someone else to do it for me". I'm basically lazy at heart.

I changed out the ribbon on this book page wreath for one that looked more like Valentine's Day. I actually bought this ribbon last year at Christmas. But since it doesn't have anything on it screaming "Christmas", it also works for Valentine's Day. More bang for the buck.

The "Be Mine" heart was another "free printable". This time from Pizzazzerie.

And there we have a little "Valentine Vignette". Which basically cost me nothing since I already had everything on hand.

I have a few more little vignettes that I'll share through out the week. And hopefully I'll get my china hutch completed. I'm still trying to figure out what to put under my cloches & in my apothecary jars that doesn't cost much money. Or takes much effort. So until then, I'll bid you farewell.
