4th of July Tablescape

Can you believe it's time for Tablescape Thursday again? Seems like it was just yesterday we were all playing with our dishes. And here it is, time to play again. Yippee!!

Just to warn you, I'm feeling a little physic today. I feel that we are going to see lots of patriotic & Americana tablescapes today in celebration of the 4th of July. So be sure to visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch to see this weeks players to see if I am correct in my prediction.

Right away I see that I am correct. What do we have here? Why, it's a patriotic tablescape. I told you I was feeling physic.

We are going to be dining al Fresco again this week. It's a bit warm, but we can always sneak a dip in the pool to cool off if we need too. But no skinny dipping, or chunky dunking allowed as there will be children present. Even if they are now adults, they are still my children.

To start off this weeks tablescape I used a vinyl round tablecloth that I picked up at Walmart for $5.00. I really don't like the look of vinyl tablecloths, but they work great for outdoors & clean up real easy. I then added these place mats from the Dollar Tree that have flags on them. What's a patriotic tablescape without flags? Guess how much they were? Come on, guess. Alright, I'll tell you. They were a dollar. Imagine that. A dollar from the Dollar Tree.

Next came my newest plates. These chargers came from Amazon and they were free!!! Well actually they weren't free. I got them by using the gift certificate I earned by using my Amazon credit card over the past year.

Next came my maroon dinner plates from Big Lots. Cost: $1.00 each. I was going for more of an Americana feel, so I opted for maroon plates instead of red.

For napkins I used these Americana kitchen towels from Kohl's. I got them on 50% off plus additional 30% off. Such a deal. And another reason I went with Maroon plates.
Added a blue salad plate. Again from Big Lots, $1.00 each.

I topped off each setting with a wooden star from Target's dollar bin and a small paper flag with the name of each guest as a place card. I then placed a real fire cracker on top. The guests will get to take home the star & flag with their name. Lucky for me, each guest is a member of my family, so that means that I get to keep all the stars. Woo hoo!!! Does that make me selfish? And no firecrackers were lit in the making of this tablescape. Well maybe one or two, but don't tell the police. Do you think the police are monitoring my blog? Am I getting paranoid? lol.

I have to tell you the story on how we came to own firecrackers. Now firecrackers are illegal in California, at least in the county we live in. But a few years back we were in Texas or New Mexico, heck I can't remember which state it was. All I know was we were not in California anymore Toto. We stopped at this shop in the middle of nowhere for gas. It was owned by the Indians and they could legally sell fireworks. Now my two boys begged me to let them buy some firecrackers & I told them NO!!!!! They were illegal in California and we were not getting any. They were bummed but understood. Well, we get out to the car & low and behold, hubby shows us that he just bought a bunch of firecrackers. I can't win! I just threw up my hands in defeat. So much for setting a good example.

Now where were we? Oh yeah, I was telling you about my tablescape. Next came the glasses. I can't remember where I got the glasses. I have 3 different sizes. This is the medium size. These are our everyday glasses. They don't look very clear do they? Probably because they are our everyday glasses & everyday go into the dishwasher. Maybe I should have left this photo out. Just keeping it real folks, keeping it real.

The silverware I used is just some cheap set from Big Lots. I think I paid $10.00 for the set. They are not worth a close up.

Two of the place settings had blue stars painted with white stars and the other two had stars with red & white stripes.

My centerpiece was a white ironstone pitcher that I got from Pottery Barn outlet a few years back for about $10.00. I collect white pitchers. This one has a rooster on the front but it is hidden by the blue star. I filled the pitcher with my flower arrangement that was in the basket on my front door. I added the little flags to make it patriotic. The flowers will go back into my front door basket right after dinner.

Here is the back side of the pitcher. I guess I really should have put the rooster showing on this side so that there was something to look at. Oh well.

This little paper mache Uncle Sam box came from Michael's a few months back. I think is was about $4.00.

I collect vintage S&P shakers. This is a small set I found at a thrift store or yard sale. I'm sure it only cost me a dollar or two.

I added a blue iron star, a patriotic birdhouse & another Target dollar bin wooden star as part of the centerpiece along with the Uncle Sam box.

I hope that you have enjoyed my patriotic tablescape. Isn't your heart swelling up with pride for the good old U S of A? I thought so.

What are your plans for the 4th? We are staying home & having a pool party. We will also have a dive in movie out at the pool. Probably won't see any fireworks. But I'm sure that hubby & the boys (who are adults) will light off the firecrackers used in this tablescape. I really hope that the police aren't monitoring my blog. I'd hate to be hauled off to jail in the middle of my party. If they do, I'll have one heck of a story to blog about next week. But I'm kind of hoping for a non eventful party. I'm not the adventurous type.

Now go and have a happy and safe 4th of July. And don't forget to put on your sunscreen. Do I sound like a mom?
