Tablescape Thursday-Girls Night In

It's time again to play with our dishes!!! I've not played as much as I would like lately. For some reason I have been in a blogging funk. I haven't really felt like participating much & I don't know why. Maybe it's the weather. It's been over a hundred degrees for the past few weeks. So I guess I've felt like relaxing in the pool, more than blogging. Can you really blame me?

The truth is I am basically lazy. If given the choice, I'd rather relax than do something that takes energy. So when the weather turns hot, it zaps what little energy or motivation that I do have to the point that I get nothing accomplished. Just ask my hubby. He has a long list of things he wants me to help him with & I always say "It's too hot!!!!".

But I decided that I couldn't let another week go by without playing with my dishes. If you want to see other tablescapes by those who really know what they are doing, be sure to visit Susan over at Between Naps on the Porch. She always puts together a beautiful tablescape. And you will also find all the other fabulous participants for this week.

I'm calling this tablescpae: "Girls Night In". As you know, or may not know, I live in a household full of men. They really don't like girly stuff. But I can't pass up buying girly stuff. So this tablescape I put together for my sister in law, my 2 nieces & I to have a fabulous girls night in. We will send all the men (or boys) out and we will enjoy a leisurely night at home enjoying a good dinner, good conversation, a chick flick & maybe a dip in the pool.

Since it will be an "all chick" affair, I'm using pink & white in my tablescape. I guess I should have put up a sign that says "No boys allowed". That brings back memories of being a kid and having a girls club. Did you have a girls club when you were a child?

I'm using my pink damask plates again. But this time, only the salad plates. I bought the plates from Target a few months back. There were a spring item (but pink is always in fashion if you are a girl) and I purchased dinner plates, salad plates & bowls on 50% off clearance at the end of spring, beginning of summer. . I love these plates (but the men in my family hate them as they are pink & girly). So I love them more.
My dinner plates came from Dollar Tree a few weeks back. I thought they would go great with my damask plates. And they do.
The white chargers were my "freeby" purchase from Amazon (I used a gift certificate I earned, so technically they weren't free).
The pink & white striped placemats & the rose napkins came from Marshall's in the spring as a set. I also purchased a tablecloth that matches the napkins, but I was too lazy to iron it, so I didn't use it for this tablescape. Plus the tablecloth is too long for either of my tables, so I need to cut it down. But I'm lazy & a procrastinator, so needless to say, it hasn't been done. I'm just using the not wanting to iron it excuse as it seems better than the truth. The silverware also came from Marshall's on clearance at the end of winter. I don't remember who the maker is or the pattern name.
I've used my Libby goblets from Walmart. I use them for everything. I'm more into dishes than glasses. So you'll see these in almost all of my tablescapes.
I gathered up 6 crystal candlestick holders from around my house & placed 3 on either side of the centerpiece. Most of these came from thrift stores.
For my centerpiece I placed a white plate on top of a crystal candlestick to make a cake plate. Then I placed a white pitcher filled with pink daisies. I placed a starfish & a large sand dollar shell on the plate to give it a beachy summery feel. And we can't forget Harold & Maude my Target birdie S+P shakers. They want to be at every dinner party I have. We'll let it slide that Harold is a boy.

I didn't make name cards as we are family & I let them sit anywhere they like.
Can't you hear the ocean waves pounding on the sand? I can see Prince Charming riding through the waves on his white horse. Don't tell my hubby.
And can you smell the flowers? What do you mean you can't smell them.
The table is set. Now all we need is the servants to cook & bring us dinner.
Oh you thought I was going to cook? You obviously don't know me very well.
Well it looks like the servants took the night off. And they forgot to send out the invites. So no dinner & no company. What am I going to do? I guess I'll just have to take a dip in the pool & plan my next tablescape.
I think Prince Charming, I mean hubby, is already taking a dip. I think I'll join him.

I am starting a NEW Mr. Linky party. It will begin on Aug 10th so everyone will have a week and a half to think about their first post. I have a poll up for votes on which button should be the new button. The "party" is called The Knock Off Knock Out-where THRIFTY meets creative sensation. Go over and learn more about the new weekly event and I would appreciate if you would cast your vote and HELP pick the new button design and its the last week for the July GIVE-A-Way, if you would like to be a part of that event..

  9. Kim, this is just beautiful! I'm more into plates than glasses also. Easier to store! I have to tell you that last night I read an article in the newspaper (Dallas Morning News) that told how chic it is to mix square with round plates. So you are very chic! The colors here are a delight. I love those napkins. Why can't I ever find any like that? The candlesticks are great (also read recently how creative it is to mix various glass candlesticks). You are soaring on the "chic" scale, girl! My "servants" not only took the night off, they quit, so I guess I'll be eating tv dinners...

  13. Love your girls plates! I know it's been really hot -- maybe you should try a "tablescape" on a float in the pool! Might be the coolest place to dine. We've not been as hot as usual here -- but the humidity's still been high. I know how it just saps any motivation to do anything but sit in front of a fan - or in the pool. Stay cool.
