It's time for Sunday Favorites hosted by Chari at Happy to Design. I love this weekly blog party as we get to post one of our favorite posts from the past. This week I am reposting one from my family blog Manning Family Tree.
I was trying to get my family to post on our family blog. So I started a weekly Show and Tell, that we had on Mondays. For the month of October we were suppose to post about anything Halloween. Unfortunately, I was pretty much the only one in my family who posted. Since this post is about my Halloween decor it fits better on this blog, so that is why I am reposting it here. This originally posted 10/20/08.
Well here it is again, it's Monday. Time for show and tell. I don't know about you, but I hate Mondays. The only thing I like about Monday is the show and tell. That is the true reason behind my doing this. I need something to look forward to.
This week we are to show and tell about our Halloween decor. I'll start off with the fireplace mantel in my family room. Now, I hate my mantle (if you can call it that), I really don't like anything about my fireplace except that I have a fireplace. Someday I will have Mike put up a wood mantle & surround as well as change out the tiles and fireplace screen. But for now, I make do with what I have.
My mantel always has the clock & the 2 hurricane candle jars. To dress up the hurricane jars, I added some skeleton hands that I picked up at the Dollar Tree store, the crow also came from this same store. The fall floral arrangements came from Big Lots. The skull & Happy Halloween banner came from Michael's. Everything else I already had. I just noticed after taking this photo that the little metal pumpkin on the far left was turned around backwards, you can't see hit cute face. Oh well.
Here is a close up of the floral arrangement. It probably won't look this good next year after I pack it away and it gets smashed in a box for a year. But for now, it looks great!
This is a small shelf that is to the left of my family room couch. The only thing I changed out for Halloween was adding fall leaves to the pitcher & adding these 3 cute little candle holders I just picked up at Michael's for 99 cents each. They were on clearance. I love finding a bargain.
This photo is my china hutch in my family room. Someday I am going to paint this either white or black. I haven't decided. Just another project on my "to do someday" list.
I made these bottles using some "mad scientist lab" stickers I got at the Dollar Tree store. I should have put them on bigger bottles so you could see the stickers better. I also attempted to make my own Halloween plates (the white ones with the black writing), but my artistic abilities are not the best. That is suppose to be a bat.
My Halloween candles. I love the skull under the cloche. It is sitting on a spider web plate. My spider web turned out better than my other plates.
This photo is on my dining table in the living room area of my house. I did the same thing to the hurricane holders here that I did to the ones on my mantle. I also made the spider web plate here as well, but my spider turned out pretty sad. This is the only Halloween decor in my living room. I mostly decorated my family room.
We are now back in my family room/kitchen. I have a dining table in here as well with this chandelier above it. I hung funny/scary photos of my family. I saw this on HGTV website and decided to make my own. Can't believe it turned out so cute.
Here is a close up of one of the photos. I printed out 3"x5" photo copies of different photos of my family in sepia tone. I then burned the edges of each photo. I then cut 4"x6" pieces from black foam board. I glued the photos onto the foam board pieces & then glued different sizes of googly eyes on the photos over the eyes in the photos. Punched a hole at the top of each & then hung from my chandelier using different Halloween colored ribbon. I love it!!!
This is the centerpiece on my family room/kitchen dining table. This candelabra is from my wedding. I put in orange candles & placed on a silver tray. I added a skull & a spider candle holder as well as pumpkin scatters. I then added 1 more googly eyed photo.
This is outside in the walkway up to my front door. My little cemetery. Looks like a skeleton is trying to escape from the grave.
I tried to take a photo of my Halloween lights in my front yard, but when you use flash, you can't see the lights very well. When I didn't use flash, my photos were too blurry to use. I may try again tonight using Brandon's camera as it takes better low light photos.
This is my front porch. See how blurry the photo is without flash? I was trying to get a photo of the ghosts & goblins that float across the wall, but it didn't turn out so great.
This is on the wall right outside my front door.
I took all these photos last night, and since I had to use my flash, they didn't turn out the best. I did take some more this morning that turned out better, but didn't have time to get them posted before I left for work & for some reason, I can't get into my computer at home from work in order to post them now. So I may post some more photos later.
Well there you go. You have seen all my Halloween decor. This is the first year since we have lived in our house where I actually put up Halloween decorations inside my house. Normally I am such a procrastinator that I don't get the outside decorated until a few nights before Halloween. But this blog has given me a reason to decorate early and to actually get it done this year.
Next week we will continue our Halloween theme. You can post anything about Halloween. It can be more photos of decor from your home or someone elses home, or decor in a store that you love. More Halloween costumes. It can be about your favorite scary movie, your favorite scary story or book, your favorite Halloween memory, what you like to do for Halloween, Halloween party photos or talk about what your plans are for this Halloween. Anything about Halloween goes.
Well I hope that you have enjoyed my Halloween decor from last year. I'm hoping to put up this year's Halloween decor tomorrow. But don't hold your breath. At least the weather has cooled down, so I may venture up into the attic & get my boxes down. I'll keep you posted.
Kim

Kim, no Halloween decor up in my house yet, but perhaps your "repost" of your last year's decor will at least get me thinking in that direction. So thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing what you do this year. I bet your children love the scary items. :-) I can tell you like to decorate for Halloween. I do too! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteYou are such a creative woman. No wonder your family didn't post. How could they compare.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I decorate for fall I don't do Halloween simply because we don't get any kids around here trick or treating. My guys are grown although they won't turn down the candy.
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I love the new cute and SPOOKY blog background! I also enjoyed taking a look at your decor from last year! Love the bear holding pumpkin cloche!
I haven't gotten any Halloween stuff out this year... I don't know, I might just stick to Autumn decor.

Hey are you sick or something? You haven't posted on either blog in a few days... I also emailed you & no reply. I'm starting to worry about you! Post a blog or email me so I know you are alright!!
ReplyDeleteLove ya,

Kim, thanks for sharing this again. I'm still lagging behind in the Halloween decoration department. I know I need to get the boxes out and get busy. Thanks for stopping by to visit. I always appreciate your comments. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteHi Kim- Hope you are feeling better- the pig has been visiting a few friends in blog land lately. Not good... Love your Halloween decor- you go all out! I love your bottle labels, your family mobile, and graveyard outside. It's fun to decorate for Halloween. I only do a little, but I play spooky music and put on the black light when I hand out candy. Since we get a lot of tweens, they get a kick out of that. Hope you get completely well soon!
ReplyDelete:-) Sue
