TGIF and a spring mantel

Thank goodness it is finally Friday!!!

And why am I glad it's Friday?

Take a look at my Thursday night.

I was putting away the sour cream in the fridge last night when I bumped the edge & the container fell out of my hands. Hit my leg and spilled out all over my pants and onto the floor. Luckily there wasn't a whole lot left in the container. Most of it ended up on my pants.

I guess I should have taken the photo before I started to wipe it off my pants. But I didn't think about photos until I had wiped the biggest portion off. It was about then that my son said "I guess you will probably blog about this". Ding, ding, ding, the lights went on & I thought, YES, blog about it. I'd better take a photo.

So I hopped over to my camera & came back to the scene of the crime and tried to take a photo. But since I was holding one of my legs up, my balance wasn't the best & the photo turned out kind of blurry. Oh well, you get the idea of what happened.

I guess it could have been worse. The sour cream container could have been full.

So in celebration of it being Friday & the container wasn't full, I thought I would share my spring mantel with you today. Isn't that the perfect segway?

It looks pretty much like my Easter mantel, with a few exceptions.

I removed the foil Easter bunnies and the "Happy Easter" sign.

Added 2 birdies.

I had planned on making a spring wreath last night to hang in the middle of the frame. But I had to watch Survivor and then The Real Housewives of New York.

Can you believe how stupid the Heroes are on Survivor? What were they thinking giving Russell of all people an immunity idol. DUMB!!!!

And then there are those housewives. I'm glad I am not like any of them. But they are fun to watch. And I wish I had their money. Who's side are you on? Jill or Bethenny? I tend to side with Bethenny. She is at least trying to repair the relationship. Jill, not so much. And I can't stand LuAnn. The new housewife Sonja looks interesting.

Sorry to get off on another subject. Now where were we? Oh yeah, my spring mantel.

You were probably wondering what else I purchased from my trip to Tai Pan Trading. I picked up a couple of green decorating balls (don't know what else to call them).

If you remember from my Easter mantel, the botanical rose prints came from Goodwill. The 2 tiered topiary came from the antique store. The empty frame from the thrift store for a quarter. It was originally gold, but I painted it & antiqued it.

I'm totally obsessed with topiaries and decorating balls this year.

And I've been obsessed with vintage frames, prints and mirrors for most of my adult life. The mirror is my hubby's. The vintage frame in front was a thrift store find for $5.00. It was gold. I painted it & antiqued it.

I love this ball (on the right) when I saw it at Tai Pan Trading. I had to have it. I paid more than I would have liked, I think it was about $6.00. But I was in love with it.

This boxwood ball was only $4.00 at Tai Pan Trading.

And there you have my spring mantel. It will probably stay this way for another couple of weeks. I'm sure I will change it up for May.

What are you plans for the weekend? We will probably work on cleaning up our backyard. Need to thin out our peaches on the tree.

My sister just called me to invite us to a BBQ tonight with my parents, brother & other sister and their families. To celebrate my niece just getting engaged. But since this is a last minute invite, and I am at work, and it would take me 2 hours from work to get there, it won't be happening for my family.

Don't you just love family? She didn't want me to feel left out. Then how about calling me a little in advance so I could have made arrangements to leave work early today. Sorry if I sound a little bitter. I am.

Luckily, my sister in law knew we wouldn't be going down to my parents today. Cause she called me yesterday to see if we were going down, and when I said no, she invited my family to come to their house for dinner tomorrow night to celebrate my niece's engagement. What I didn't know at the time was that tonight's dinner was going to be a family BBQ at my parents. I just thought my brothers family was going down to my parents to introduce my niece's new fiancee to them and eat dinner. And I didn't want to infringe on their family moment with my parents. I had no clue it was going to turn into a huge family party.

Don't worry, I'll only be bitter for about 15 more minutes. I don't want to sound like one of those HOUSEWIVES that I watch on TV. I know my sister didn't plan to exclude me and my family ( at least I hope she didn't). The dinner tonight just kind of evolved into something bigger than originally planned. It's not their fault I live so far away. And work even further away. And can't get off early.

I just need to look on the positive side. I now don't have to spend $20.00 in gas or drive two hours. And I still get a free dinner tomorrow night at my brother's and he only lives 15 minutes from me.

TGIF!!! I need a vacation!!!

  1. Lover your mantel. I just picked up a botanical print but need to do something to the frame. Laughed like crazy for 'anyone' giving Russell and immunity idol. I haven't watched Housewives this yr and I hope you are feeling better not bitter soon :) but I must say I do understand!

  4. OMGosh, Kim!! Been there done that and always hate it! ha! You poor thing! LOL @ your son reminding you to blog it!

Re: Housewives of NY, Don't get me started, gf! I was a major Bethany and Jill fan, then all of a sudden they are enemies, I missed that memo I guess. This whole Bethany thing is so staged. She won't even talk to Jill unless the cameras are rolling, how sincere is that? Jill, she does like her underdogs, look at her and the "countess" now. Of course, ole crazy eyes Ramona continues to provide the comic relief ha! Did you see her on that runway? hilarious! After last season, the whole cast was told to heat things up otherwise they wouldn't renew their contracts. Guess the table tossing Housewives of NJ set the bar way high! lol! I could go on forever about them. too much fun! lol!

Love the mantel btw! You're ready for spring!

    Cheers!
